Small room, great potential – guest bathrooms are a home’s calling card

Small room, great potential –

guest bathrooms are a home’s calling card

Guest bathrooms face a unique challenge: the few square metres are supposed to impress guests and residents alike. But it’s not as easy as it sounds. Bathroom owners in the past played it safe and rarely took risks in trying something new. A lost opportunity – literally being the “home’s calling card”, a cleverly designed guest bathroom will always leave a lasting impression.

Planning is a must

One thing’s clear – guest bathrooms need to be planned properly due to the limited space available. This includes taking the time to select the right sanitary ware and furniture. Collections with a wide range of products and sizes are the ideal choice. This way you get the most out of a small space. The Venticello, Subway 2.0 and Collaro collections from Villeroy & Boch offer a number of different products that are perfect for guest bathrooms – such as washbasins in different shapes and sizes, matching furniture and in the case of Subway 2.0 even toilets in various sizes.

No risk, no reward

Using small floor plans intelligently leaves more room for effects. Guest bathrooms provide the perfect blank canvas: designing and renovating guest bathrooms is relatively inexpensive due to the limited space. A striking wall design or exclusive tiles won't eat up much budget. And even the bathroom ceramics can add an exciting touch. For instance, a rectangular Venticello toilet with SlimSeat, the Collaro washbasin that won the Red Dot Design Award or bathroom furniture with trendy surfaces are great key pieces for small bathrooms. When selecting items, the home owner can decide whether the guest bathroom should match the master bathroom or simply do its own thing. It also provides the perfect stage for taking risks – and the audience it needs due to the different users.

The washing area: compact on the outside, spacious on the inside

No matter how small the guest bathroom may be, there’s no excuse for not having a washing area with mod cons. After all, washing areas are used for a variety of reasons: for washing hands, for freshening up – and in a perfect world they would also have plenty of storage space to safely stow all the utensils needed in guest bathrooms. Some hand-rinse washbasins can also be space-saving. Thanks to their delicate design, models made from Villeroy & Boch’s TitanCeram take up less space with a relatively spacious sink. The hand-rinse washbasins from the Memento 2.0, Finion and Collaro TitanCeram collections also look impressive. Should more space be available, larger vanity, surface-mounted or wall-mounted washbasins can also be used, depending on personal preferences. And coloured washing areas for guests are no longer taboo: a colourful Artis washbasin adds style to the room while making a personal statement.

Guest bathroom or toilet? It’s all about the shower

The layout and individual needs are decisive factors in deciding whether a guest bathroom should be fitted with a shower or not. A number of guest bathrooms have not only been designed to accommodate short-term visitors, but also overnight guests. Moreover, residents will often use it as a back-up when the main bathroom is occupied. A shower meets all of these requirements and can also be installed in a comparatively small room. Shower trays that can be customised to adapt to the layout are ideal. The Villeroy & Boch Subway Infinity and Squaro Infinity shower trays made from ceramic or from Quaryl®, a material developed especially by Villeroy & Boch, can be cut to size. The Subway Infinity ceramic model can be made with different décors thanks to ViPrint technology – ranging from geometric patterns to natural wood décors through to traditional tile patterns.
