It takes an open mind and keen powers of perception to develop something new: Our world has all kinds of inspiration to offer. The most beautiful shapes, surfaces and colours can be found in nature, while the architecture of our buildings and cities present the ways in which people design and shape their surroundings. Both aspects converge in the 2019 Collection by Villeroy & Boch Tiles: With their designs, décors and formats, the new wall and floor concepts stand for the great diversity that characterises modern life. The focus of this collection is on the themes of concrete, natural stone, wood, colour and variety of format and application.
As a form of response to the design theme of concrete that is an integral feature of modern interior design, Villeroy & Boch Tiles has brought fresh inspiration to the typical, homogeneous look of concrete. The ATLANTA range, for instance, exhibits a minimalist concrete look, with the authentic patina of use, while the WORKSHOP concept interprets the concrete theme more in the direction of trendy industrial style while staging walls with a nearly classic-looking relief décor.
URBAN JUNGLE, the extravagant concept for walls and floors, possesses a wholly new concrete-terrazzo look and combines this with sophisticated floral wall decorations – making it a perfect addition to an oasis of calm amid the jungle of the modern major city.
Ceramic tiles in a natural stone look have been popular for years as well. Villeroy & Boch presents three new ranges in this design area for 2019: The BELLAGIO range creates an unexpected link between natural and artificial stone of the kind not found in nature: marble meets terrazzo.
With ABERDEEN and GATEWAY, Villeroy & Boch Tiles goes a step further to offer planners and architects two exquisite system ranges in the look of natural stone; with their variety of colour and formats, they open up vast design freedom in the commercial sector. The design of the GATEWAY range interprets the characteristic, rough texture of slate in a discreet relief. In addition to three natural colours, it introduces to the range a bright Crème hue that one would not expect to find in slate. ABERDEEN is an architectural system range that exhibits the grey Aberdeen granite that characterises the cityscape of the Scottish city, offering planners tiling arrangements in modern-minimalist and rustic interiors alike.
Porcelain stoneware tiles with the look of exquisite wood are equally appealing for their aesthetics and their functionality. They lend rooms a natural flair yet are considerably more easy-care, robust and durable than genuine wooden floors. With OAK PARK, Villeroy & Boch Tiles extends its range in this design segment by adding the calm look of wood. Like oak, it exhibits a fine, harmonious grain with very few, mild knotholes and a natural effect subtly underscored by a light relief.
In the past, the colour schemes for many institutions were dominated by more neutral shades. Now, however, colour is returning to interior design: sophisticated wall coverings in matt, expressive colours generate elegant and yet minimalist atmospheres – in the same way that LIGHTPLAY, the new wall concept employs the innovative, stone-matt PowderTouch finish, the tender feel of which adds additional emphasis to the powdery and slightly grey shades. The colour concept is based on a neutral crème joined by a cool green-blue and a warm beige-red colour scheme. The gentle relief of the 3D décor vaguely reminiscent of upholstery fabrics lends the wall design an added ‘wow’ effect.
Colour also drives the METRO FLAIR wall range; with three formats and eight modern colours, this range offers numerous combination options, with a trendy, urban look that creates a fresh living experience. As a functional and robust wall covering, throughout the house, these shiny bevelled tiles also offer the aesthetic appeal of their irresistible, modern retro charm.
Variety of format and application
All of the ranges in the 2019 Collection are created as comprehensive tile concepts. With a broad selection of formats, they delight private developers as well as planners and architectswith wall and floor designs for every furnishing scheme and style and nearly every layout. The new OAK PARK and URBAN JUNGLE are also available in imposing large formats. In the new 20 x 160-cm format, OAK PARK OPTIMA is very similar to genuine wood planks; with URBAN JUNGLE OPTIMA, large, attractive ceramic areas can be tiled with just a few joints, adding comfortable minimalism to the space.
For outdoor arrangements, the OAK PARK, URBAN JUNGLE, GATEWAY and ATLANTA ranges also offer outdoor tiles in a thickness of 2 cm; their design is coordinated to the 10-mm-thick porcelain stoneware to permit visually uniform designs that extend from indoors to outdoors. In this way, the 2019 Collection offers the right tile solution for nearly every application.
