New Tiles for 2019 by Villeroy & Boch New wall and floor concept in a contemporary interpretation of concrete – WORKSHOP: Extravagance in industrial style

Collection Workshop

Rustic construction-site planks, with workers in heavy footwear trafficking over them day in and day out, carrying construction materials and pushing heavy equipment, leaving clearly visible markings, have furnished Villeroy & Boch Tiles with the inspiration for a new wall and floor concept: WORKSHOP interprets the contemporary design theme of concrete in a completely different way – extravagant and contemporary, in the spirit of the trendy industrial style.

WORKSHOP makes the most of the play with contrasting colours: this multi-coloured tile range runs the gamut, from the warm look of rust to steely-grey and anthracite-coloured concrete tones all the way to elements in cream and brown. The result is a decidedly lively, even wild floor covering. The pronounced ‘used’ look confidently underscores the authenticity of the design itself. In clear contrast to this: The wall design, made with light basic tiles and an almost classic-looking, monochrome relief decoration.

The floor tiles of the WORKSHOP range are made of vilbostone porcelain stoneware, the wall tiles of nonvitreous. The porcelain stoneware is available in two formats – 60 x 60 cm and 30 x 60 cm – and can be laid all in a single format or in combination. Combining formats produces a heterogeneous covering that creates a stunning effect, even on walls. Both formats are only available in a single colour: multicolour mix, with a very wide variety of variations. These rectified tiles feature relief and matt finishes and are available in slip-resistance class R9. A 30 x 50-cm cut décor is available for decoration, and can be used in a variety of ways, whether on the floor or as a broad decorative band or border on the wall. For still more decoration options, there is a functional, 7.5 x 7.5-cm mosaic bonded to a 30 x 30-cm mesh; which is ideal for producing floor-flush showers. 7.5 x 60-cm strip skirting rounds off the floor concept.

The nonvitreous wall tiles from the WORKSHOP range are available in both 30 x 60-cm and 40 x 120-cm formats. The 120-cm length has proven itself in the tiling of shower walls, as it requires very few joints to install. This not only looks good but is also easy to care for and clean. The bright, monochrome colour, light grey, provides a clear contrast to the dominant porcelain stoneware. Borrowing from the floor design, it, too, exhibits very slight signs of wear, made more or less clearly recognisable by the lustre effects in the glaze that emerge depending on the incidence of light. The highlight on the wall is the expressive relief decoration in formats of 30 x 60 cm and 40 x 120 cm. Its charm will surprise you: the classic-geometric design exhibits gently curved lines that form continuous ellipses. The decorative tiles can be installed both side by side as on top of each other. Different patterns emerge to create an engaging aesthetic, whether in a strip or over an entire area.

WORKSHOP permits expressive wall and floor designs throughout the house: spacious kitchens and living and dining areas, but also corridors and bathrooms – whether in a renovated old building, a modern new building or an open loft, the tiles emanate an individual look with a powerful design. Applications are conceivable in the commercial sector as well, such as in hotel lobbies, boutiques or fitness studios.
